New York and Ontario, Canada

October 15, 2019 - October 17, 2019

In Seneca Falls we visited the National Women's Hall of Fame which we missed on our previous visit.  We really enjoyed reading the bio's of many of the women who have been admitted to the Hall of Fame but I, at least, came away feeling like a bit of a piker.  It's amazing to read their accomplishments.

October 17, 2019 - October 21, 2019

We drove over into Ontario and up to the small town of Auburn where a branch of Laura's Roetcisoender family lives.  We visited them two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves so we thought we visit them again.

Hielke and Theresa's home in Auburn.

Enjoyed the beautiful fall colors here.

Enjoyed dinner out with Theresa, son Jeff and his wife Kim.
Earlier in the day we met Jeff and Kim's delightful daughter Melissa (but we forgot to get a picture!)
Jeff and Kim's whole family had recently returned from a trip to their parents homeland (i.e. Netherlands).
3 of Hielke and Theresa's children - Jeff, Susie and Albert.

Massachusetts

September 21, 2019 - September 29, 2019

I'm currently attempting to retrieve the pictures of this portion of our trip from a damaged hard drive.  While here we visited:

  • Minuteman National Historic Park in the Lexington/Concord region of Massachusetts.  My 5th great grandfather, Martin Denslow, answered the Lexington Alarm from Winsor, CT at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.
  • Saugus Iron Works National Historic Park in Saugus, Massachusetts.  The first iron blast furnace in the New World was built here.  While going through the museum here I discovered that my 9th and 10th great grandfathers (John Winthrop Sr. and Jr.) where instrumental in it's creation.

September 29, 2019 - October 8, 2019

The pictures of this portion of our trip from are also on the damaged hard drive.  While here we visited:
  • Our friend Claudie who lives in Marshfield.  She drove us around the area as well as took us to Scituate, Massachusetts where my Damon ancestors lived back in the 1600 and 1700's.
  • Harvard Museum of Natural History which houses the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants (commonly known as the Glass Flowers).  This collection is beyond amazing.  You stare at the glass plants and you simply can't believe they aren't real.  I hope I can recover the pictures we took - it would be a shame to lose them.
  • Plimouth Plantation - a reproduction of the village built by the Pilgrims who came aboard the Mayflower in 1620.

October 8, 2019 - October 12, 2019

More lost pictures but while in Sturbridge we:
  • Drove around the area between Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA, along the Connecticut River.  We focused on the towns of Windsor, East Windsor and Windsor Locks since many of my ancestors lived in this area long ago.

October 12, 2019 - October 15, 2019

We drove to Woodland Hills Campground near Austerlitz, NY where we once again had the opportunity to see our friends Fred and Elsie along with Bonnie and Amy, their two daughters.  The entire campground with in the throes of closing for the season so we helped by raking up beautiful colored fall leaves from around Fred and Elsie's rig.  Because Laura saved some of the fall foliage pictures from our drive through Massachusetts on her phone we actually have a few to share.
